Jeddah is a city in the Hejaz region of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the country's commercial centre. It is not known when Jeddah was founded, but Jeddah's prominence grew in 647 when the Caliph Usman made it a travel hub serving Muslim travellers going for Islamic pilgrimage to the holy city of Mecca.

  • All of the capitals of the Middle East and North Africa are within two hours flying distance of Jeddah, making it the second commercial centre of the Middle East after Dubai
  • Area: 1600 square kilometres (617 sq mi)
  • Population in 2022 was approx. 4.78 million
  • In Arabic, the city's motto is "Jeddah Ghair", which translates to "Jeddah is different."
  • The city is widely perceived as the most liberal city in Saudi Arabia and is a popular tourist destination in the region.
